Opening of the School in Dakar

Monday 9 october was an important day for the District of Africa: the Marist school in Dakar, Senegal, opened its doors for 300 children. The project started several years ago, with the distict's desire to elaborate a project fatithful to the Society's original vocation to education, and encouraged by the orientations of the last General Chapters towards educational mission in all its forms. Supported by the Genral Administration, the confreres of the district of Africa committed themselves to open a school campus in the suburbs of Dakar. In this area there is currently a "Poperty boom" which is attracting families in need of schools and educational facilities. The project began to take shape with the purchase of the existing annex of the Cours Saninte Marie de Hann, and the construction of a new building on the Ndiakhirate site in the perpheriy of Dakar. This year the Cours Sainte Marie de Ndiakhirate welcomes children in pre-school and primary, with a 14 members teaching and management staff. The aim is to develop further the school and include also secondary education. The children are both girls and boys and belong to all religions, Catholics and Muslims alike.
