Le Saint Oublié

A book dedicated to the life of Marist Father Paul Ducharne “Le Saint Oublié” has been published in France. Fr Paul joined the newly born congregation of the Marist Fathers in 1839. He ministered in Belley and later in the colleges of Vauban and Charlieu. He spent the last 20 years of his life in La Neylière, France, where he died in 1874. Soon after his death Fr Paul’s grave in Charlieu became a well known place for pilgrimages, and many people implored for his intercession for the healing of ill children. In 1908 a process of beatification was started, but this process was never brought to an end. With this biography the author, Mr Paul Chopelin, wishes to draw the attention to this “forgotten Saint” and through him understand more about religious mentality in post-revolutionary France.
