Colin Year

On 15 November the Colin Year was officially opened.  In his message announcing the event, the Superior General expressed the hope that by developing a real devotion to his person and deepening the grasp of  the teachings and  values of Fr Colin, the Society  may respond wholeheartedly to the work of renewal and refoundation.

The Superior General  marked the inauguration of the Colin Year by lighting a lamp before the icon of the Founder in the General House chapel. A light will remain burning throughout the year—a reminder and expression of the reflections and prayers of confreres  throughout the world.

"Among these [disciples of the Master] at all times, God chooses many who, following more closely the example of Christ  by the shedding of blood or the exercise of heroic virtue, give a splendid witness  of the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Apost. Const. Divinus perfectionis Magister).
For the postulator instructed to re-open the cause of beatification of Colin and for all the Society of Mary, there are two elements indicating the path to follow. The first is to discern with the help of God, prayer, experts and documents whether Colin practiced the Christian virtues heroically and therefore can be put forward as an example of holiness for the Church community. The second is to learn more about Colin as a man, a believer and a founder and the role he plays in the life of all Marists.

The website set up especially for the Colin Year under the care of Fr Ron Nissen sm has been launched. Visit for a weekly  reflection for personal and community and use over the coming the year.
